Historical Note
   
 
In February 1990, Mr. Stephen A. White de l'Université de Moncton transmitted the following note to our Secretary, Thérèse Bourque :

«Here is a part of the translation of the original text of the 1671 census of Port-Royal, published by Placide Gaudet»

LABOUREUR (Plowman): ANTOINE BOURC aged sixty two, his wife Antoinette Landry aged fifty three. Their chidren, eleven, four married: Marie 26, François 27, Jehan 24, Bernard 22. The non-married: Martin 21, Jeanne 18, Renée 16, hugette 14, Jeanne 12, Abraham 9, Marguerite 4 . Twelve heads of cattle and eight ewes. Four «arpans» of cultivated land.

LABOUREUR (Plowman): FRANÇOIS BOUR 28 , his wife Margueritte Boudrot 23. Their two children: Michel 5 and a half, Marie 3. Fifteen heads of cattle. Five and a half «arpans» of cultivated land.
